I was recently asked this question by my younger sister who is planning to sell products online. The video this week features a guest star, my youngest son as he tugs at my shirt for my attention but I hope you find value from it.
If you’re not yet ready to do paid advertising for your brand or product, here are 3 tips to get people to know about your business and eventually get them to buy.
- Shout it out on Facebook, Instagram, Twitter or whatever social media platform you’re on!
This one is pretty obvious, but it is effective. Your first ever post about it will gain the most traction (people are curious and more likely to click if they hear about it the first time). Share a link that routes to the website that is selling your product. Make sure the pictures of the product in the website are beautiful, the descriptions are sufficient and other important details are there. Make sure it’s ready for people to buy straight away. Remember, first impressions are everything when it comes to selling.
- Get their email address.
This is soo important and so often overlooked! I’ve talked about this in a previous post, so make sure you check that out. Most people will visit your website once, not buy, click away and never return. That’s the truth about online marketing. It’s sad, I know but this is where email marketing comes in.
Once they visit your website, you should do your best to capture their email address. A “subscribe for email updates” call out will not suffice. You have to give them something so compelling for them to give you their email address. It could be a 20% discount on their first purchase, a cheatsheet, an irresistible freebie or a free email course – something of value that would make them give you their email address. As soon as they give you their email address, that’s when you can create a relationship with them. Give them the value that you promised and then you can talk more about your product, your brand or yourself (if you represent your brand).
Most people will not buy upon seeing something for the first time – especially if your product is at a more premium price. Once you create a relationship with your email subscribers, they’ll warm up to you and if they love you and your brand, there is a higher likelihood of them buying.
Don’t have your own website to capture their email address? You can use Mailchimp which is free for the first 2,000 subscribers and they’ll provide a URL to capture name and email addresses.
- Put a Facebook pixel on your website.
You may not be ready yet to do any advertising, but you should prepare yourself for the time when you are. Create a Facebook page for your brand and get the Facebook pixel code so that you can paste it on your website.
What the pixel does is it tags people who visit your website. So once you are ready to do Facebook ads, you can select these people as the target for those ads. You may have noticed that after you visit certain websites and then you go to Facebook, the sponsored ad you see is that of the website you just visited. That’s what Facebook pixels are used for. If this sounds so confusing to you, visit this page to learn how to put it on your website.
So there you have it. 3 easy tips to get people to know about your business or product. Tell me what you think in the comments below and I’ll see you next week!
